Welcome to Kabul! Upon arrival at Kabul International Airport, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. After settling in, begin your immersion with a visit to the Karte Sakhi Shrine, a beautiful blue-domed pilgrimage site. Continue to TV Hill for panoramic city views, then see the Taliban-era flag pole for insight into recent history. Explore the restored Babur Gardens, final resting place of the first Mughal emperor. After a local lunch, visit the Afghanistan National Museum, home to priceless artifacts including the famous Bactrian Gold collection. End the day with a walk through Bird Street and an optional stop at a local tailor shop. Welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Kabul.
Morning departure for Bamyan (approx. 4 hours / 180 km). The scenic drive offers stunning mountain vistas. Arrive and check into your hotel. After lunch, begin exploration of the Bamyan Buddha niches – the sheer scale of these 6th-century monuments is breathtaking. Explore surrounding caves that served as monastic cells. Continue to Shahr-e Gholghola (City of Screams), the ancient citadel offering spectacular valley views. Walk through Bamyan city, visiting local cave dwellings still inhabited today. After breakfast, drive to Band-e-Amir National Park (approx. 1 hour / 80 km). Spend the day exploring this geological wonder – six stunning turquoise lakes formed by natural travertine dams in the Hindu Kush. Enjoy a boat ride on the main lake, visit local women’s jewelry and handicraft markets, and have lunch in a mountain cave restaurant. In the afternoon, visit Foldi Valley, known for its beautiful landscapes and traditional village life. Walk through a village and interact with local families. Return to Bamyan for dinner. Known as “Bactra” in antiquity and the “Mother of Cities,” Balkh was a major center of Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, and Islamic scholarship. Walk through the ancient village believed to be the birthplace of Rumi. Explore the ruins of the 17th- century Green Mosque (Masjid Sabz) and the Haji Piyada Mosque (Afghanistan’s oldest). Morning transfer to Mazar-e-Sharif airport for your 11:00 AM domestic flight back to Kabul (approx. 1 hour). Upon arrival, meet your guide and enjoy a local lunch. Spend the afternoon walking through Chicken Street, famous for Afghan antique shops, carpets, and handicrafts. Continue to Paghman Valley to see the historic Paghman Palace and its gardens.
